Body Piercing by Jane Mc Manigill
Welcome to Avalon's personal page on body piercing. In my sincere desire for the well-being of ALL, I offer the following information so that people of all ages, lifestyles/positions, and interests can make informed, quality choices on behalf of their own health.
All of this material was prepared by my own expert piercer, Jane Mc Manigill, of Yoni Tattoo and Body Piercing (Yoni Tattoo and Body Piercing). This document (see link below) is absolutely worth your time. Even if you don't think it currently applies to any aspect of your life, I highly recommend it. Chances are that someone you know / care about either has, or will obtain, a piercing. Jane's caring straight talk cuts through the tall tales circulating from fear and lack of better information. Simply stated, Jane has provided what a person needs to know to best ensure that the piercing experience is both safe and happy. There is no reason why anyone should accept less for herself/himself. Be informed!
As an overview for those who would (and rightfully so!) question Jane's authority on the subject, I'm pleased to offer the following biography:
| Jane Mc Manigill, LVN, began collecting tattoos and piercings in the mid-'80's when she was lucky enough to associate with some of the most preeminent of Californias' piercers. Jane was a major contributor to Japan's first book on the subject of body piercing, the Kanzen Guide to Body Piercing, and two years later its sequel, the Kanzen Guide II. She graduated from nursing school in 1993, with top marks in her class. A brief and annoying career, nursing in a traditional clinical setting, followed where she learned much about idiocy and greed. In 1994 she attended Fakir Musafars' Piercing School followed by an apprenticeship and first job piercing on the Venice Beachs' busy boardwalk. In the 2 years that followed, she also attended Fakir's Branding School and the first advanced piercing school offered by Insight Institute. Fakir's method of teaching is very humanistic and focuses on the spiritual side of body modification as much as the technical and aseptic aspects. Jane started working at Yoni Tattoo, then owned by two women, Tinker Candlish and Kirby White, but left one side of the Pacific for the other, and in 1997 was piercing and training an apprentice in Sydney, Australia. When she returned to the US, she went back to work at Yoni and taught at one of Fakirs' advanced piercing seminars. She returned to Australia for a month in '99 and, with the help and cooperation of the staff of Polymorph, the only APP approved shop in Australia, advised the Central Sydney Area Health Service regarding sanitary practices in the field of body piercing. Although the CSAHS did not adopt some of Polymorph's stricter standards, their suggestions were well received, and some were incorporated into the health codes. Polymorph continues to be one of the finest piercing studios in the world and their contribution to Australian body piercing cannot be overstated. Jane has appeared in several magazines including Nyan 2 Club, BodyPlay, Savage, The Kanzen Guide to Body Piercing 1 & 2, Fetish, and Burst. In the last year, she has accepted several guest-piercing posts and has also returned to nursing part-time. "In all the years of piercing, healing has remained my primary calling and I have taken several college courses to keep my licensing current and my medical skills sharp. I especially enjoy alternative therapies to be used in place of, or in addition to, standard American Medical Association practice." Jane returned to Yoni Tattoo in July of 2000, and is happy to be back in its friendly, supportive and professional environment. "Yoni is a second home to me and my co-workers are like my family. It is an awesome, positive place to work, and we're making changes and improvements all the time. The best aspect is developing ongoing relationships with my clients Yoni is not an assembly line shop!" |
To facilitate navigation, reading, and printing, I have prepared two versions of the primary document. The first is the read-friendly format with page-by-page navigation. The second is the print-friendly format with a single, scrolling page. Also, I have a prepared print-friendly version of two excerpts that are excellent resources to have available before and after the piercing.
